Kite Designer Ralf Grösel about the new Vegas 2014
The Vegas 2014 is equipped with a completely reworked trailing edge. Also the Dacron section as well as the TE Force Control has been reworked for 2014.
WHY WERE THESE CHANGES NECESSARY?
The Vegas 2013 is an extremely balanced kite, which inspired Freestylers as well as Wakestylers and Freeriders. In the course of the development of the Dice, we realised that the gradient of the TE tension is extremely important for the performance of the kite. Hence we have changed the base of the Vegas 2013 until we found the perfect blend of durability and flying characteristics.
HOW DO YOU NOTICE THESE CHANGES ON THE KITE?
We have reduced the width of the Dacron strip by about 50% compared to the previous year and at the same time increased the canopy double draw (TE Force Control) at about 120%. Each trailing edge needs to have a certain tension to avoid fluttering and to discharge the right performance. The Vegas has an open cone (trailing edge radius), which is important to perform unhooked manoeuvres at zero pressure. Beyond that it is very important to design the trailing edge in a way that the kite performs well in different kinds of conditions.
RALF'S RECOMMENDED LINE LENGTH FOR FREESTYLE:
Out of my experience, the smaller Vegas 5 to 9 work extremely well with the 19 or 22m lines. When using a medium size kite like a 10 or 11 I would choose 22 or even 24m lines, depending on the riders weight. For the bigger sizes 12 plus I would go for a bar with 24m lines.
Congrats Colleen! - Overall Winner Triple-S 2013
The 2013 Triple S Invitational just wrapped up. This year saw some big changes at SSS. The new format was introduced changing the event from a brodown jam format to heats with a scoring system and a panel of judges. This turned up the pressure on the competitors, who now had to not only throw bangers but throw them consistently. In sliders the riders had two runs through the park, taking a score from your best hit on each feature. Tom and Craig rode together in heat #3, along with Aaron Hadlow, Andre Philipp, Rick Jensen, BCS, Chad Worrall, Davey Blair and Joby Cook. Only three riders would advance through and unfortunately Tom and Craig were just slightly edged out of the finals by Hadlow (5x World Champ), Chad Worrall (pro cable rider) and BCS (local legend).
Mens slicks was going to be another tough heat for Tom and Craig with some really strong riders in heat #3. 8 tricks, 4 get scored and only 3 people would be advancing into the finals. With some major tricks going down from everyone it was super close but Craig managed to make his way through and into the finals. Respect!
On the womens side of the event, it was total domination by North Kiteboarding rider Colleen Carroll! She was riding super strong and made it through to the finals in every discipline! And she didn't slow down their either! She's worked really hard the last few years and it's paid off with a full sweep of the Triple S podiums! 1'st place in sliders, slicks and surf! Way to go Colleen!
Some other big changes came about at Triple S this year! The new NKB rooftop slider and NKB shotgun rails are a staple of the park! North Kiteboarding is not only keen on growing the team with Colleen, Tom and Craig but also putting dollars into making sure there is world class features to push it on!
Ride - with Stefan Spiessberger
"Kiteboarding changed my life - from riding my bike to my homespot in Austria every single day to traveling around the world and enjoying the most beautiful spots for Kiteboarding all year long. When I did my first turns on a Kiteboard, I knew that this was something special - freedom, nature and a fast progression made this sport my biggest passion. But there was one thing that I didn't expect in first place - to make a profession out of my hobby. Being able to live that live still feels like a dream to me!" says Austrian Kitesurf Professional Stefan Spiessberger.
This video gives an inside view of the beginning of Stefans carreer and his unbeatable will to get on the water as often as possible and as well shows the latest moves of the European Vice Champion from his winter trip to Cape Town / South Africa.
