Kite racing Oceanic Championships
After the world championship in China two weeks later, two of the NKB race team, Olly bridge and Blasco Ozog travelled south to Perth, Western Australia to compete in the kite racing oceanic championships.
The kite racing oceanic's started on the 11th of December at Leighton beach. Perth gave us the best racing conditions, sunny 30 degrees, sea breeze of 6-15 knots throughout the regatta. The first two days consisted of the qualification series. 42 racers were split into two fleets. Both fleets races with 8 racers over the first two days. 16 year old Olly Bridge was putting the pleasure on current world champions Florian Gruber, managing to qualify into the gold fleet as 2nd. Blasco Ozog managed to qualify 5th.
On Friday competitors raced in Gold and Silver fleets in a long day of five races with the top 21 Men’s division competitors in Gold, pitting the fastest racers up against eachother creating a fierce battle.The pack was tight and the pressure on in today’s Finals Series races of the Kiteracing Oceanic Championships at Leighton Beach, Fremantle. Olly Bridge was fighting to track down world champion Florian Gruber. Olly Bridge took a bullet in the 2nd race gold feet.
Going into the final day of racing Sunday, Olly Bridge was in a combatable second with only 8 points away from first and 12 points in front of 3rd place Riccardo Leccese. Blasco Ozog moved up into second, 5 points away from 2nd.
The final day of racing consisted of 4 races with the top 10. The wind was blowing a steady 6-8 knots. Olly Bridge managed to score a 3,1,2,6 which translated into 2 nd place in the men's open and 2nd in the under 21's. Blasco Ozog managed to score a 5,DSQ,5,2. placing him in 5th overall. All in all, a great event for the NKB team!
