Big Waves, Big Winds, sees Triple S riders go Big!
The South West winds delivered big conditions for Day 5 of the Triple S Invitational. Following the round up of the Slicks Finals held in the morning, riders, judges and spectators moved south, to Cape Hatteras.
Riders were judged on their kicker hits for the Surf discipline, and with the ocean delivering juicy ramps it was an impressive spectacle. A solid 30 knts of wind meant everyone was lit on 5m and 7m Kites and was not for the faint hearted.
As the women’s heat got underway, it was clear to see which riders had more experience in such testing conditions. NKB Team Rider Colleen Carroll chose a 6m Dice, a kite with great performance in strong winds. Settling into the heat, riders searched for ramps to hit and as time passed, confidence built throughout the girls with stylish grabs and unhooked moves scoring high with the judges.
With wind and waves still building, the men hit the water. Currents ripped down the coast making it hard to stay up wind and a disaster if anyone crashed their kite. Craig Cunningham unfortunately missed out on making the finals but put in a good performance dialling in a Shifty to Wrapped and Back Mobe. Tom Court, on a 7m Vegas breezed through to the finals with a Crow Mobe, Tootsie Roll and Toe Side 5.
Speaking to Aaron Hadlow he said, “It was really challenging and hard to find the kicker you needed. The conditions were unpredictable but still fun to ride and see what was possible to achieve”
The results will be announced this evening at the closing ceremony. Be sure to check out the video from the Surf discipline here http://www.triplesinvitational.com/on-demand/2014/day-5-highlights/
The new Directionals are available!
Small waves - big waves, shore break - reef break, powerful swell - less powerful swell, fast waves - slow waves, and so on. The variety of conditions in wave riding are endless. Even more important to have the right choice of boards for any conditions all over the world. Getting barreled with the Kontact in Mauritius, rippin your local shorebreak with the Whip, going on a kite and surftip just with one board, the Whip Xsurf or even just play around on flat water with the Nugget. It doesn't matter what you're up to, you'll find exactly the right board for your needs and wishes.
Since a long time North Kiteboarding is putting a lot of effort into the development of wave boards. Every year again, Sky Solbach, North Kiteboarding legend and wave board shaper is trying to find new directions and ideas to make every single board even better then the year before. Also this year we're using the well tested bamboo construction, although the designs just show a little bit of Bamboo, as it was the time to do a step forward in progressional board design. Even in contests, any team rider is just using production boards, also proofing quality and performance in this special field. Just recently with four top 3 results in Mens and Womens at the KSP wave tour in Mauritius.
Boards for the Pros, but also for anybody looking forward to the next trip or the weekend to finally enjoy the closest home spot with the most amazing boards. Join the next test event and convince yourself!
