The WAM is a great all around board by Patri McLaughlin from Maui, Hawaii

5

Pros

  • Bulletproof construction
  • Good for all conditions
  • Really forgiving

Cons

  • Not as light as the pro construction boards

Best use

  • Great long lasting all around board

Comment

The WAM is a classic. It's a really good all around board. It's will also last a long time. It's a bit heavy but the construction is really strong.

Probably the best board I tried recently by LoloABe from Berlin

5

Pros

  • Great board for a large variety of conditions
  • Solid construction, high quality manufacturing
  • Good compromise between snappy and stable

Cons

  • Pads of older versions tend to detach easily

Best use

  • Surf any type of waves and try basic tricks

Comment

I tried something like 15 boards during the last years, classic surf boards, new generation wave kiteboards with concave or flat decks, every sort of tails, with or without rocker, known brands and custom boards, in smashing waves or chops.

Based on the above, I can tell that the Wam 5'11" is definitely the most impressive wave board I have ever tried. The combination of a well shaped rail and a relatively longer rounded tail makes the board super smooth in the bottom turns, but still very snappy when needed. Airs and basic tricks are comfortable due to the well distributed volume and weight.

I ride strapless, my experience though tells that quality pads improve the comfort. Here North misses a point since the pads of my Wam 2013 just peeled off after a while and the 2015 and 2016 come without pads.
