PIQ’s multisport sensor for kiteboarding
Today, PIQ is announcing the availability of a new multisport sensor dedicated to kiteboarding; in partnership with North Kideboarding, the world's leading kiteboarding brand. Bringing fun to the forefront, North Kiteboarding and PIQ confirm their ambition to deliver a new, exciting and engaging riding experience, enhancing the passion for sports. Riders will now have access to a powerful and wearable product that provides live innovative metrics, reflecting the height of jump, air time, G force at landing, rotations, number of jumps or total air time. In addition to detailed session statistics, riders can be part of the PIQ community where they can challenge their friends, compete against other kiteboarders from across the globe, and partake in the North Kiteboarding and PIQ leaderboard.
Sport lovers who already have a PIQ sensor for golf, tennis or ski, only need to equipe themselves with the new kiteboard accessory in order to activate the sensor to kiteboard mode. The accessory is a kit composed of a mount that can be fixed to any board, and a housing in which the kiter will secure his/her PIQ sensor. It is rugged, waterproof, shockproof, corrosion resistant and easy to use. It’s been specifically designed to never interfere with the ride and is compatible with any board. The PIQ sensor is connected via Bluetooth at low energy to a dedicated mobile application (iOS and Android).
Till Eberle, North Kiteboarding CEO: “We are very enthusiastic to partner with PIQ and to make the connected solution for this complete and emblematic sport as from July 2016. Thanks to our expertise in kiteboarding and the technical know-how of PIQ, all riders - casual or serious - can now know track the height of their jumps, the air time or rotations. Just remember to share the best of your performance whether surfing the waves or flying through the air.”
Cédric Mangaud, CEO and cofounder of PIQ, feels the same enthusiasm: “Sharing our respective expertise, we have worked together with one single goal in mind: to bring a lot more fun to kiteboarding. As a kiteboarding addict myself, I can now achieve my dream of knowing the height of my jump directly from my board. For us, the more you enjoy the ride, the more you practice and the better you get.”
Get your jump height in real-time on your board
Thanks to the PIQ technology, which captures data instantly, kiteboarders can automatically visualize their jump height in real-time on their board. With the LED screen in its transparent housing, by pressing the button, kiterboarders can easily check the height of their last jump, even in bright sunlight. Right away, they can boost their next jumps and exceed their limits.
For Aaron Hadlow, North kiteboarding team rider and Winner of the 2015 Redbull King of the Air, the North Kiteboarding and PIQ solution will become a must have in the Kiteboarding world, especially because of this real time display: “It’s a super fun toy and pretty neat. PIQ is really an addictive connected sensor for all kiters that want to save some proof of the most epic jump they ever made. Once you’re used to knowing your performance after each jump, you never want to go for a ride without it again!”
Instantly challenge the kiters’ community
North Kiteboarding and PIQ measures performance and progress for all kiters during and after their sessions. The PIQ measuring unit opens up a whole new world of gaming possibilities: it highlights the best jumps and the best score in the leaderboard, allowing riders to compete within the community, with their friends and to challenge themselves. Each day, after a session, kiters receive the leaderboard with the TOP 10 highlights, and see how they measure up within in the community.
After having already introduced its multisport sensor to the worlds of golf, tennis and skiing with world-class brands: Mobitee, Babolat and Rossignol, PIQ confirms its ambition to enhance the sport experience and make it more exciting. This fourth new sport shows how PIQ’s vision of a single connected sensor allowing its users to play multiple sports, is coming to more and more markets. After “mainstream” sports like golf, tennis and ski, PIQ becomes the 1st connected sensor to go from ground to water. It will be released in some other action sports later this year.
Pricing and availability
North Kiteboarding and PIQ come bundled with an advanced PIQ multi-sport sensor and a battery bank charger compatible with existing and future PIQ sport products. It includes a kiteboard accessory and an activation card to connect the sensor in kiteboard mode.
